Intent Deadline For 35+ Worlds Extended

The American Water Ski Association’s International Activities Committee will not be accepting any intent to enter the 35+ Water Ski World Championships from independent athletes after Sept. 1, 2018. The original deadline was July 1. Anyone who has not submitted an intent to enter to compete as an independent needs to do so by Sept. 1. Jaquess, Smith Win Malibu Open Titles

U.S. water ski athletes Regina Jaquess (Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.) and Nate Smith (McCordsville, Ind.) won the women’s and men’s professional slalom titles on Saturday at the 2018 Malibu Open Festival at Trophy Lakes in Johns Island, S.C. Jaquess won the women’s slalom title over France’s Manon Costard in the head-to-head finals, scoring 1 buoy at 41 feet off to Costard’s 3-1/2 buoys at 39-1/2 feet off. Smith won the men’s slalom title over Great Britain’s Will Asher in the head-to-head finals, scoring 2-1/2 buoys at 41 feet off to Asher’s 1-1/2 buoys at 41 feet off.

U.S. 'Footers Earn Medals At 2018 Worlds

U.S. athlete Lexi McCauley won gold medals in girls’ slalom (14.20 points), tricks (6,800 points) and overall (2,950.0 points) at the 2018 Junior Barefoot Water Ski World Championships, and earned bronze medals in women’s tricks and overall in the 2018 Elite Barefoot Water Ski World Championships.The U.S. Junior Barefoot Water Ski Team and U.S. Senior Barefoot Water Ski Team each won respective overall team gold medals and the U.S. Elite Barefoot Water Ski Team earned the overall team silver medal at the 2018 Barefoot Water Ski World Championships, Aug. 12-18, at Dream Lake in Napanee, Ontario, Canada. For the seventh consecutive time, the biennial Elite (Open) Barefoot Water Ski World Championships was held simultaneously with the biennial Junior Barefoot Water Ski World Championships and Senior Barefoot Water Ski World Championships. The seven-day event featured more than 100 athletes from 12 countries. The Elite Barefoot Worlds took place for the 21st time, while the Junior Barefoot Worlds was held for the 13th time and the Senior Barefoot Worlds commenced for the 11th time.

Rock Aqua Jays Win Show Ski Nationals

The Rock Aqua Jays (Janesville, Wis.) won the national team title at the 44th Indmar Marine Engines Division 1 Show Ski National Championships, presented by Polk County Tourism and Sports Marketing, Aug. 10-12, on the Rock River at Traxler Park in Janesville, Wis. The Rock Aqua Jays earned high-scoring awards for dock and equipment personnel, pick-up boat crew, towboat driving, high individual club act, barefooting, strap doubles, pyramid and jumping on their way to tallying a grand total 2,115.04 points and winning their 20th national title in the history of the event, and first since 2014.

In Memoriam: Ralph C. Meloon, 1917-2018

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of boating hall of fame member and industry icon Ralph C. Meloon at the age of 100. The middle of three brothers, Meloon was seven years old when his father Walter C. Meloon moved the family from New Hampshire to Florida and started the Florida Variety Boat Company (now Correct Craft) in 1925. Meloon was involved with the company then and continued his involvement until his death.

5 Athletes Win Titles At America's Cup

Five athletes won titles on Friday night at the inaugural America’s Cup Invitational at the Mystic Lakes Ski Club. The event featured U.S. athletes competing in men’s and women’s slalom, tricks, jumping and overall with a total cash-prize purse of $40,000. The Open division at the 76th GOODE Water Ski National Championships – being held at Mystic Lakes through Saturday – served as the qualifying round for the America's Cup Invitational, which took place under the lights following the conclusion of Friday’s Nationals’ events.

Virtual Slalom Skiing (VSS) has officially launched as of Aug. 8, 2018. The VSS Beta is live on the APP store for download. Learn more. Virtual Slalom Skiing, which the American Water Ski Association has invested in, is currently available for only IOS.
