Gay Sets Pending World Tricks Record

U.S. water ski athlete Anna Gay (Winter Garden, Fla.) set a pending women’s world tricks record of 10,640 points at the McCormick Fall Competition, Oct. 28-29, in Seffner, Fla. If approved by the International Waterski & Wakeboard Federation’s Tournament Council, the record would surpass Gay’s current world tricks record of 10,610 points set in October 2016.

NSSA Awards Bids For 2019 Show Nationals

The National Show Ski Association’s board of directors on Friday approved the hosting bids for the 2019 Division 1 Show Ski National Championships and 2019 Division 2 Show Ski National Championships. The Kwahamot Water Ski Club in Tomahawk, Wis., was awarded the bid to host the 2019 Division 2 Show Ski Nationals (tentative: Aug. 2-4, 2019), while the Lake City Skiers of Warsaw, Ind., won the bid to host the 2019 Division 1 Show Ski National Championships (tentative: Aug. 9-11, 2019).

Jaquess Wins King Of Darkness Title

U.S. water ski athlete Regina Jaquess (Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.) won the women's jumping title and Great Britain's Jack Critchley won the men's title on Saturday at the 2nd King of Darkness night jump at the Isles of Lake Hancock in Winter Garden, Fla.

Garcia, Lang Earn October Honors

USA Water Ski has selected Taylor Garcia (Winter Garden, Fla.) as its Male Athlete of the Month and Erika Lang (Gilbert, Ariz.) as its Female Athlete of the Month for October. Garcia and Lang are now eligible for the United States Olympic Committee’s Best of October Team USA Awards, presented by Dow.

Paducah To Host 2018 Disabled Nationals

U.S. disabled water ski athlete Connor PoggettoThe Water Skiers with Disabilities Association is pleased to announce the 2018 Disabled Water Ski National Championships will be hosted by the Kentucky Lake Ski Nuts, Sept. 5-8, at Twin Oaks Lakes in Paducah, Ky. The club has extensive experience with hosting world-record capability tournaments. It also will be hosting its 10th Southern Regional Water Ski Championships next July. The results from this 25th Disabled Nationals will be used to select the 2019 U.S. Disabled Team, which will compete in the 2019 Disabled Water Ski World Championships. The team members will be announced at the Nationals’ awards banquet on Saturday, Sept. 8.

Louisiana-Monroe Wins Collegiate Nationals

The University of Louisiana-Monroe water ski team won the Division 1 national title at the 39th Connelly Skis Collegiate Water Ski National Championships, Oct. 19-21, at Bennett’s Water Ski & Wakeboard School in Zachary, La. The Warhawks tallied 12,165 points in winning their second consecutive and 28th overall national team title since the inception of the tournament in 1979. Louisiana-Lafayette finished second with 11,930 points. Alabama, which tallied 11,880 points, placed third. Florida Southern College finished fourth with 11,240 points and Rollins College was fifth with 9,150 points.

Dees To Receive Lifetime Achievement Award

Frankie DeesThe USA Water Ski and Wake Sports Foundation Hall of Fame Selection Committee is pleased to announce that Frankie Dees of Mulberry, Fla., will be the 2018 Water Ski Hall of Fame Lifetime Achievement Award recipient. The Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes longevity in the sport. The award goes to those individuals who have been actively involved in one or more of the USA Water Ski sport disciplines for a minimum of 50 years. Whether they are competitors, coaches or behind the scenes tireless promoters and administrators, these individuals have spent at least a half a century in the sport.
