Team Skiing: Florida, Tennessee Advance

Florida and Tennessee will be the representatives from the American Water Ski Association’s Southern Region for the team skiing competition at the 75th GOODE Water Ski National Championships, Aug. 9-12, at the San Marcos River Ranch in Martindale, Texas. Florida is the defending national team champion. The Southern Regionals were held July 19-23 at Lymanland in Duncanville, Ala. To view the team skiing results, click here (PDF).

NSSA To Conduct Elite Athlete Elections

The National Show Ski Association will be conducting elections during the 43rd Indmar Division 1 Show Ski National Championships for elite athletes to sit on the NSSA board of directors. Voting will take place between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Aug. 12 and 13 at Shorewood Park in Loves Park, Ill.

IWWF Approves Dodd’s World Jump Record

The International Waterski & Wakeboard Federation’s Tournament Council has approved the pending men's world jumping record of 254 feet/77.4m set by Canada’s Ryan Dodd on July 1 at the Space Coast 3 Event Record at Stillwater Lakes in Palm Bay, Fla.

10th World Games Begins Tuesday

Seven athletes will represent USA Water Ski at the 10th World Games, Tuesday through Thursday, on the Old Odra River in Wroclaw, Poland. The World Games, first held in 1981, is an international multi-sport event meant for sports that are not contested in the Olympics. The water ski program consists of three-event water skiing (slalom, tricks and jumping) and wakeboarding.

Mad-City Ski Team Wins Wisconsin State

The Mad-City Ski Team (Madison, Wis.) won the Division 1 team title at the 51st Wisconsin State Water Ski Show Championships, July 20-23, at Lake Wazeecha’s Red Sands Beach in Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. Hosted by the Wisconsin Rapids Aqua Skiers, the tournament featured 24 teams in three divisions. The Mad-City Ski Team tallied 1,892.22 points after earning top scores for dock and equipment personnel, towboat driving, showmanship, sound crew total, overall show, barefoot and pyramid.

U.S. Team Earns Silver Medal At U21 Worlds

The U.S. Under 21 Water Ski Team earned the overall team silver medal and five U.S. water ski athletes combined to win seven medals, including four gold, in respective events at the 8th Under 21 Water Ski World Championships, July 13-16, at the Sentosa Water Ski Club in Dnipro, Ukraine. The United States tallied 7,542.05 points in earning the silver medal for the second time in the history of the biennial event. Canada scored 7,825.40 points to win the gold medal for the first time, and Belarus tallied 7,253.26 points in securing the bronze medal. Athletes from 22 countries participated in the tournament.

Can Am Challenge Teams Selected

USA Water Ski and the American Water Ski Association’s International Activities Committee are pleased to announce the selection of two water ski teams – Under 14 and Under 17 – that will represent the United States at the 9th Can Am Challenge, Aug. 26-27, at the Lake of Dreams in Jerseyville, Ill. The event features athletes from the United States and Canada competing for team titles only. The AWSA’s IAC chose the teams based upon a pre-approved selection criteria.

Qualifications Reminder For GOODE Nationals

The national rankings' list qualifications cutoff date for the 75th GOODE Water Ski National Championships is Thursday, July 13. Any U.S. athlete with a Level 8 national ranking will be qualified for the Nationals, which will be held Aug. 9-12 at the San Marcos River Ranch in Martindale, Texas.

Smith Wins Title At Wiremill Pro Elite

Nate SmithU.S. water ski athlete Nate Smith (McCordsville, Ind.) won the slalom title at the Wiremill Pro Elite on Wednesday at Wiremill Lake in New Chapel, England. Smith defeated Great Britain’s Will Asher in a runoff to secure the title. After both skiers tied with scores of 3 buoys at 41 feet off in the finals, Smith won the subsequent runoff with a score of ½ buoy at 41 feet off to Asher’s 5 buoys at 39-1/2 feet off.

Entry Deadline For NSSA Nationals Is July 15

The deadline for teams and individuals to enter the 2017 Division 1 and Division 2 Show Ski National Championships is Saturday, July 15. Official entry forms for the 2017 Indmar Division 1 Show Ski National Championships and 2017 Division 2 Show Ski National Championships are available online at www.USAWATERSKI.org. The Indmar Division 1 Show Ski National Championships, presented by Polk County Tourism & Sports Marketing, will be held Aug. 11-13 in Loves Park, Ill. The Division 2 Show Ski National Championships will be held Aug. 4-6 in Tomahawk, Wis.

Wonder Lake Wins NSSA Central Regionals

The Wonder Lake Water Ski Show Team (Wonder Lake, Ill.) won the Central Regional Show Ski Championships on Sunday at Shorewood Park in Loves Park, Ill. Wonder Lake, the defending national champion, tallied 1,541.88 points in winning the title over the Backwater Gamblers (Rock Island, Ill.), which scored 1,342.63 points.
